How to Ride Switchbacks

Switchback corners, or hairpins, are the bane of many riders’ lives when they come to ride in the Alps. These tight, 180 degree turns can really ruin the flow of a trail if you don’t know how to tackle them properly.

Over the years, I’ve coached hundreds of riders around the switchbacks here in Les Arcs, and the rate of progression is always so satisfying – it’s so good to unlock this key skill, and it increases the fun factor exponentially now that there’s no need to put feet on the floor or even get off and push around the corner!
